Yesterday was World Poetry Day. March 21 is the day where poetry,  one of the most unique means of literary expression,  is celebrated. In honor of this,  I will be sharing a fine poem written by a student from one of the poetry workshops.

Lade Dare - What Poetry Means To Me

The skilful use of words,

The beauty of language,

That hits you harder than a thud;

That is the essence of poetry.

Conveying so much and more

In not many words.

Like the infinity after four,

That is the distinction of poetry.

Beckoning with so much allure,

To experience joy, to ease distress.

Acute pain, exquisite pleasure;

That is the influence of poetry.

The expression of inner groanings,

Writing what words cannot say,

A text of the soul's mutterings;

That is the depth of poetry.

Poetry is life at the tip of my pen.

The animation of words,

To reveal the lives of men.

Poetry is poetry.
